Biography
Alvin Cornista is a Filipino-Canadian JUNO Award–nominated composer, four-time Awit Award–winning record producer, saxophonist, and music technologist. He teaches music technology at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, where he was a recipient of the William and Phyllis Waters Award. His interests span music production, recording and audio engineering, sound design, psychoacoustics, and immersive mixing.
Cornista’s professional work spans contemporary, jazz, world, popular, and electronic music in concert, studio, and multimedia settings. His engineering and production work includes internationally released recordings spanning recording, live sound, post-production, sound design, mixing, and mastering.
As a composer, producer, and music director, his work has extended to film, including projects supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, and major international cultural events, including the Korea–Philippines Presidential Summit, the ASEAN Summit in Manila, and projects associated with the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in Brazil. His creative and teaching practice brings together equity, diversity, and inclusion in acoustic performance, contemporary production, cross-cultural musical perspectives, and emerging music technologies.
