Danny Gerth

Biography

Danny Gerth is a PhD student in musicology at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music and a Junior Fellow with the Jackman Humanities Institute. His research focuses on issues of language, genre, and the construction of national identity in Quebec’s popular music scene during the Quiet Revolution of the 1960s and 70s. Before coming to Toronto, Danny studied in the United States, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music theory at the University of Indianapolis and Indiana University, respectively. While at Indiana, he also served as a copy editor for the university’s student-run music theory journal, Indiana Theory Review. He has also held teaching assistant positions at Indiana University, Brandeis University, and Harvard University.
