Master of Music (MMus) Composition

Overview

What to expect

The Master of Music in Composition is an advanced two-year program culminating in the creation of an original composition defended at an oral examination. Students receive attentive, individual instruction from faculty of wide professional experience. Program instructors include some of the most distinguished composers in Canada.

Why it stands out

Students advance their composition skills through actual performance. Our numerous resident ensembles issue calls for student works, our New Music Festival stages complete student-composed operas, and our annual Karen Kieser Prize competition culminates in the professional performance of a student chamber work. These exemplify how students get their music heard.
